Been trying for a month to cancel membership, which, oddly, one can not do by phone or walking into a local fitness center (Note: I had no problems writing a check and signing up by walking in). As a member of the military who recently received orders, I went to my "club" in Doral, FL as instucted, picked up cancellation form, and was told to mail it to LA Fitness HQ. Desk attendant said that the postmarked date on envelope would be used to prorate. A month later, my membership fee is still being withdrawn from my account. I called LA Fitness HQ, explained process I'd been through, then received a "we see no signs of cancellation" response and an "if it were me I would have..." lecture that included instructions on walking in to a nearby club, asking for a cancellation form, ensuring the desk attendant makes a note on your account (confirm with your own eyes), fill out paper form, and send it via certified mail to LA Fitness HQ followed by weekly phone call check-ups. What a work-out. While talking to LA Fitness HQ Phone Witch, I was trying to perfect a new stretch where I reached through the phone and grapped her belligerent neck. My advice: do push-ups or join the military if you want to get fit; otherwise, walk into LA Fitness, bend over, and touch your toes.

Cancellation was an extremely exhausting process, especially considering that I can confirmed with the manager what the process was prior to signing my fiance up on my account. Surprise, surprise when it came time to cancel, the process what nothing like what had been described.
To cover my ***, and I strongly suggest this to anyone going through this process, make sure to send your cancellation notice certified with return and keep a copy of the notice in your files.
No one at the gym could provide any information on the status of the cancellation. So after hunting down the number for the corporate office (because we were supposed to received notification of cancellation via e-mail - which didn't happen) I spent over 20 minutes waiting to talk to a live person.
Customer service = F
Ease of cancellation = F-
Accuracy of information = D

I submitted the form to cancel my membership. I indicated to cancel my spouse"s membership also. They cancelled mine but did not cancel my spouse's. They withdraw a payment from my debit card. I had to tell my bank not to honor the payment. It is easy to join but hard to cancel.

I took note of all the prior complaints before sending in my forms. I sent them so that a signature would be required, well guess what? They refused to sign and I got the packet back in the mail. What a joke. They did finally send me an email confirmation when I called corporate on the phone. But future billing will be a wait and see at this point. I'd never do business with them again.
