When you sign up for training contact, be very careful when they tried to sell you master trainer. Ask for written out verification when you sign. I bought a contract with their master trainer program. About 6 month into the contract, my "master" trainer got promoted....

This is a fact for all LA fitness gyms nationwide I was told. Their membership policy fees for seniors are neither fair nor ethical. My spouse and I have been members for several years; and when I became eligible for the Silver Sneaker program...

LA FITNESS IS AN UNETHICAL COMPANY

LA FITNESS - LONG BEACH II, CALIFORNIA I was robbed $2,019.00, right under my nose. I was lured into signing up for LA Fitness Pro Results Personal Training sessions. I was told I was scheduling an appointment for a "fitness evaluation", which I believed to be part of my new gym membership. Turns out it was a disgusting sales tactic to have me sign up for personal training sessions. I was told that if I was not satisfied with my first training session I could cancel at any time and get my money back. The staff member reviewed information with me, including my weight and height, and then asked me to sign/initial an electronic signature pad. Unbeknownst to me, I was signing a 12 month contract, totaling $2,019.00!!! I immediately called the person in charge of the personal training program and left him a message. He called me back after a few hours and I told him I wanted to cancel. I asked him if I could deliver the cancellation notice to him and he said there was no need, that he would take care of the cancellation. It has been six months and $160.00 are still faithfully being withdrawn from my bank account for services I have not received. When I first called the gym to clarify the matter, I was told that if I wanted to cancel I would have to pay half of the total contract amount. Of course, I refused to pay! I have made phone calls to the corporate office and have sent letters. No response. My next step is the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Reports. I will be contacting TV stations and newspapers, as well as posting warnings on social media. The Mayor of Long Beach is a personal friend of mine and I will be contacting him to make him aware that LA Fitness is a corporate thief and a bully. I was told by an attorney that there is enough evidence of fraudulent business practices that he is seriously contemplating filing a class action suit. Can you imagine how many people would be involved in hopes of getting their money back?!!! Thousands if not millions of dollars would have to be reimbursed and LA Fitness would lose all credibility!!! For now, I let everyone know that LA Fitness is an unethical company and not to do business with them. AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T SIGN OR INITIAL ON AN ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE PAD. THEY WILL USE YOUR ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE ON WHATEVER CONTRACT AND STEAL YOUR MONEY FROM RIGHT UNDER YOUR NOSE!

Any place actually but never trust what is verbally promised. Always look for it in writing.

Unfortunately you will have to read the fine print as well.

Always ask for a fee schedule or see if it's clearly displayed or available somewhere. I get leery when I don't see prices because not only is one open to fraud but ignorance.

A lot of sales people including gym staff simply don't know, they act like they know but they don't.

I'd consult a lawyer soon if you can't cancel. You don't want them dinging your credit score or turning the bill over to a collection agency.

Also report them to the local Better Business Bureau.

Good Luck

La Fitness in Duluth, Georgia - Asked for 3 months personal training and the contract states 12 months!

I asked for 3 months personal training program for me and my wife. I said that it was going to be just for a little time because of my work and other commitments. The representative said it is only in a monthly base and I can cancel the program giving 30 days notice. Today I went to the LA Fitness in Duluth, GA to give the 30 days notice and they said that the contract was for 12 months and if I want to cancel I have to pay the 50% of the remaining program (roughly $1,500 !!!). I spoke with the manager and all the other guys relatives to this program and they denied in my face what they told me at the moment to sign. They said the only way is to call to corporate and they probably can give me a solution. After the call, basically they said if you have a written agreement we can change it. After that I went to the facility asking for a written agreement and they denied it, saying that it is impossible. Now I am looking how I can cancel or modify the contract, and also out of money... PLEASE NEVER SIGN A PERSONAL TRAINING PROGRAM HERE !

Trainers are not qualified. LA Fitness will not refund training sessions even if you have been injured

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON TRAINING AT LA FITNESS. GO TO A CERTIFIED INDIVIDUAL TRAINER. LA Fitness says their trainers are all qualified but in my experience many are not qualified at all. I have been a member of LA Fitness for approximately 6 years. My last training session was in 2010 at which time a new trainer, first day on the job, had me doing too many reps with too much weight and my arm was injured. I have not been back to LA fitness for training because I have had several training sessions where the trainer was new to training and didn't have a clue what they were doing. I have been paying for my membership for 3 years so I wouldn't lose my training sessions and have 58 sessions remaining. I called to see if I could get a refund for the remaining sessions and teh manager at the corporate office told me that LA Fitness has never nor will they ever refund any training sessions. She said she would personally ensure I would be set up with good trainers in the future so I can use the rest of my sessions. In my opinion, they should ALL be good trainers and have to go through a regimented training program before going out on the floor to train.

I find it incomprehensible that to be a physical therapists that a masters degree and licensing is required yet to be a trainer maybe one certification and cpr training. Both frequently instruct on the same exercises and conditions.

Now would you rather have a therapist with 5-6 years study in their field or a physical trainer that might have passed an online program and got a cpr card.

True many gym rats know their stuff and have learned a lot over the years but too many have gaps in their knowledge, don't have full understanding of what they do know and frequently relied on cheaters drugs. Hate to say it but many gym trainers are there because they spent so much time on their body in the gym, buying supplements , gear and memberships that's all they know and all they can afford to be. They boxed themselves in, literally in many of these big corporate gyms to taking a job as a trainer.

The gyms don't care because they only pay the trainers a small portion of what the customer's paid.

I would make sure a trainer as a degree in any of the sciences, multiple certifications, some kind of medical experiences, a license and goes to every bit of training they can get. Are they a true student of the craft.

I got a trainer and stated I could not do single leg exercises, but he decided I did not know any better. Now I have a bad knee and 42 personal training sessions. They suck.

La Fitness in New York, New York - North bergen nj location! sucks!

this place gets ZERO stars, not only did they push me and my sister into getting a trainer once a week but they rushed us into signing contract and neglected to mention it is a 52 week program when we said what we were looking in a gym was something monthly, then when we went back we cancelled the membership OVER THE PHONE and got into argument with the *** named GUSTAVO, and once over the phone they want to charge us another month claiming they never got the cancellation....DONT GO HERE they are unprofessional and only nice when they get you to give up money...they are scam artists!!!!!!!
